De Balie under fire: “No platform for sexual violence”

The campaign group Geen Podium is calling on Amsterdam debate centre De Balie to cancel a discussion with the art collective KIRAC. The group opposes the promotional evening for KIRAC’s latest film.

KIRAC is under fire over Honeypot, its latest film, in which the far-right philosopher and writer Sid Lukassen has a sexual date with a “left-wing girl”, which he changes his mind about during filming. KIRAC used the footage nonetheless.

At the film’s presentation a few weeks ago, KIRAC tried to “uncancel” Julian Andeweg by leading him back into the art world on horseback. This provoked a storm of protest and a petition against De Balie’s promotion of the film.

The campaign group Geen Podium accuses De Balie of giving a platform to “those who perpetuate rape culture”.

De Balie told Joop.nl that the evening would go ahead despite the petition, which has been signed 1,700 times. The campaign group announced that it would not stop at the petition and that further action would follow.
